Bandar Tasek Mutiara (also known as Pearl City), is a 107-acre integrated township in Simpang Ampat, which is located about 20 minutes away from the Second Penang Bridge. The development, launched in 2008, encompasses several projects.
Among them are the residential developments of Pearl 28, Pearl Harmoni, Pearl Saujana, Pearl Tropika, Raintree Park, and Raintree Park 2, which offer 2-storey semi-detached and terrace houses as well as 3-storey duplex villas (townhouse). One thing one might want to take note of when searching for a property in Bandar Tasek Mutiara is that in the past, concerns have been raised about the quality of the building materials of the properties.
In 2015, yet another high-rise serviced apartment, the Avenue Garden, was launched to meet the demand for non-landed residential units, while two years before that in 2013 the Pearl Avenue commercial development was launched, consisting of 2- and 3-storey shop offices. In 2016, the 2-storey Pearl City Mall began operations, gaining acclaim as the first shopping mall in Simpang Ampat.
The GEMS International School of Pearl City was opened in 2015, with a learning syllabus combining the National Curriculum for England as well as Malaysian subjects. The school also features facilities for sports, arts, culture and science, such as two swimming pools and a theatre. Other schools in the vicinity of Bandar Tasek Mutiara include SMK Tasek Mutiara, SJK (C) Boon Being, SJK (T) Tasik Permai, SMK Tasek, and SJK (C) Boon Beng.
Other than additional residential developments, plans are also underway for infrastructures like a commercial building, medical centre and retirement village, boosting the appeal of Bandar Tasek Mutiara as a well-rounded place to live and work in. Currently, the nearest hospital is the Hospital Bukit Mertajam, situated about 20 minutes away by car.
Nevertheless, travelling out of Bandar Tasek Mutiara is extremely convenient as the Simpang Ampat KTM Station and trunk road (Federal Route 1) are just a short distance away, giving residents easy access to other towns in mainland Penang and beyond. However, it is not a good location to stay in for those who rely on public transportation, as there are no nearby bus stops.
