Critics Consensus

Roland Emmerich's 2012 provides plenty of visual thrills, but lacks a strong enough script to support its massive scope and inflated length.

Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review purrfectly w This movie was such a fun time, especially to watch with the kids. The visuals were impressively fantastic and the pacing of the movie in general was very well done so there isn't a moment where you're bored or wondering when its going to end, like a lot of movies these days.I loved all the characters, and the actors playing them were a great choice. Some of the one liners we still quote today in my family lol like ..'lift your big butt for Sasha..' in a Russian accent ofc, lmao It really helped you forget some of the silliness of the script.. and there were a lot of moments that were unrealistic - but I think that's expected in any 'end of the world' movie.I would actually say this is my favourite 'end of the world' movie of all time. The blend between government, the 'average Joe', science and the philosophical moments with the one character who consults his Monk teacher atop the mountain in the second half.. was a perfect blend for me and my family. Highly recommended especially if you like non stop action with a little heart, and a hearty helping of silliness. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/24 Full Review Korra N Fairly dumb but still an extravaganza of epic visuals, intense sound design, and some solid albeit corny acting choices that make for a good time at the movies. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/24 Full Review Warren C I wasn't entirely awful despite being a little far fetched. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review The Wandering D Boo. This was terrible. A plot so congested it makes the 5 through LA look like the speediest highway in existence. Didn't care for a single character. Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/24 Full Review Malik S I am the type of person who, if the movie doesn’t require it, I won’t think too hard about it. That’s how you have to watch 2012. Don’t focus on the limousine being able to navigate through a collapsing building, or an RV being able to drive at 50mph after being hit by a flaming rock. Just turn your brain off, and watch a CGI masterpiece of the world being destroyed. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
